Trick or TreatThis is a special notice to Auckland Unite members.

Paid stopwork meeting

Unite union has issued a general notice to all Auckland employers to release members from 7-9pm on 30th October (next Friday) under Section 26 of the Employment Relations Act 2000.

Section 26 allows union members the right to attend a union meeting up to two hours, on pay, twice a year

This stop-work meeting is apart of an ongoing campaign by Unite to increase the minimum wage to a living wage (66% of the average hourly earnings) starting with an immediate rise to $15.00 per hour - click here for more information.

New Zealand/Aotearoa’s current low wage economy has caused serious problems for working people across the country, currently over 400,000 people are paid less than $15 per hour. Unite has campaigned over the past 4 years to increase the minimum wage which has led to the minimum wage increasing from $9 (2005) to $12.50 (2009).

The stop-work meeting will be coordinated with the Halloween protest march for a $15hr Living wage (pictured).

Unite Union is a democratic, non-profit workers organisation committed to improving the lives of workers and their communities through organising and activism. We put workers first.
